Ground is an urban platform for activating formerly vacant lots and vacant buildings to restore daily use, beginning in Oakland.
We are beginning with a series of reimagined Black cornerstores, common spaces, storefronts, and homes.
Founded by a visual artist, Ground is creating new urban forms to revive Black craft and manufacturing, sustenance, housing, and everyday Black green spaces. Ground restoresa everyday space as an urban form.
We work with overlooked thresholds, previously muted buildings, land banked lots, and crucial urban corners, as a way to activate and transform our everyday economies, our everyday narratives, and possibilities.
